FC Barcelona Alusport’s 10 international players that featured in the 2012 World Cup in Thailand came away with medals. The three Brazilians - Ari, Wilde and Gabriel - won gold, Cristian Torras, Fernandao, Lin, Aicardo and Lozano, won silver and Saad won bronze.

Facts and figures

The Barça player that put up the best numbers in the World Cup is the Italian Saad Assis. Playing for a restructured Italy team, FC Barcelona Alusport’s number 11 led his country with seven goals - one from a penalty - and one assist in seven matches. In addition, he won the bronze medal after Italy defeated Colombia in the third and fourth place match.

Two other Barça players that put in great performances were Sergio Lozano and Jesús Aicardo. The first, however, suffered a terribly hard tackle from the Brazilian Je in the last match of the tournament and he wasn’t able to perform at his highest level. Lozano scored five goals and one assist in his seven World Cup matches. Aicardo was one of the standout players of the tournament. In the final he showcased his skill when he scored the 2-1 against Brazil. The Barça Alusport player finished the tournament with four goals and three assists in his seven World Cup games.

Fernandao (4 goals and 1 assist), Torras (3 goals and 7 assists), Ari (3 goals and 5 assists), Gabriel (3 goals and 1 assist), Lin (2 goals and 2 assists) and Wilde (2 goals) also had sublime World Cup campaigns.

Wilde missed the final

Besides Lozano’s possible injury, the only other player Barça Alusport are worried about is Wilde. The pivot didn’t feature in the final due to injury. This Thursday, as the internationals return to Barcelona, the team’s Medical Services will determine if the Brazilian will be able to travel with the team to Segovia.

The keeper Cristian was only able to play in one match, against Panama, seeing that Spain’s first choice keeper is Juanjo.
