What seemed to be a harmless joke turned into a burdensome saga. The players, technical staff and managers of FC Barcelona Alusport were made to wait more than two hours to board their flight to Alicante, the penultimate stop before the 45 minute bus ride to Murcia, at El Prat Airport last night.

The charter company contracted to take the team to Alicante was caught up in a general strike at the Milan airport, where the plane flew to Barcelona from, thus bumping back the time of departure. The players spent their time waiting for the plane at the airport’s VIP lobby where they watched TV, surfed the web and played cards.

The plane rolls down the tarmac at 21:15

The Barça expedition boarded the plane at 21:00 and the aircraft rumbled down the runway 15 minutes later. At 22:15 the plane landed in Alicante, 45 minutes later the players, technical staff and managers had completed their journey to Murcia. The team ate a quick meal and went straight to bed seeing that the fourth and possibly last match of the LNFS final series will be played this afternoon.
