Javi Rodríguez Nebreda was already a Spanish national team legend when arrived to FC Barcelona in 2006 from Playas Castellón, a team where he enjoyed a lot of success. The now Barça Alusport captain decided to help the promotion-winning Azulgrana team to solidify its place in the LNFS’ top flight. He was the center of the project and he quickly rose in the team ranks as a vital player within the squad. Rodríguez was the leader in the dressing room because of his experience and talent. He was the great captain.

The power forward brought character to the team. Rodríguez, a very technical player, was also a specialist on set pieces.

Two golden years

After winning three Catalonia Cups, in the 2010/11 season Rodríguez won the first major title for FC Barcelona Alusport: the Spanish Cup (the first edition of the competition). From that moment on, the Barça captain hasn’t stopped lifting trophies and in the same year he led the team to a Copa del Rey crown. The season ended with a Liga title, the first in the team’s history.

Rodríguez’ ambition continues to be insatiable despite his 38 years, but his participation on the court has slightly diminished. This season, the power forward helped the team defend two of the titles that were won last season, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Cup. Barça Alusport also claimed its first European crown, the UEFA Futsal Cup. Rodríguez can end his Barça career by winning his second consecutive Liga title with the Azulgranas. The Barça captain is leaving the team after fulfilling all of the objectives set before him when he arrived in 2006.
