The first signing of the Bartzokas era is an excellent shooter from the perimeter.

Víctor Claver arrived at FC Barcelona Lassa in the summer of 2016 from Russian side Lokomotiv Kuban. The 2.07m power forward comes to strengthen the team under new coach Georgios Bartzokas, his former coach at Kuban in the Russian league.

Claver was born in Valencia on 30 August 1988 and began his career with his home town club Valencia Basket where he spent six seasons between 2006 and 2012. In the summer of 2012 the player made his way to the NBA where he signed for Portland Trail Blazers, the franchise that had chosen him in the draft in 2009. In the NBA he played a total of 80 matches and then in 2015 he returned to Europe.

His first stop back on the old continent was with Russian side Khimki. He spent just a few months with the club before moving on to rivals Lokomotiv Kuban. Under the watchful eye of Bartzokas, Claver was one of the key members of the team who made it to the Euroleague Final Four after eliminating none other than Barça. He made 31 appearances with an average of 10.8 points per game and was vital in Kuban’s quarter final win over Barça Lassa.   

On 20 July 2016 it was announced that he would join FC Barcelona, becoming the first signing of the new Bartzokas era. 

Technical profile

Claver is a player who as a forward or a power forward thanks to his 2.07m frame. The Valencian likes to get close to the basket but he also has a reliable shot from distance, scoring well from the perimeter. Claver brings strength, rebounding skills and intensity to the team.
