Barça Lassa ran away with a convincing 94–72 victory over Real Madrid at the Palau Blaugrana on Sunday evening to shrink the gap between them in the Liga ACB standings.

Barça point guard Thomas Heurtel had a game-high 21 points to pace the Catalans, whose attack was en enigma to Real Madrid all game long. But the 28-year-old Heurtel was just one of five Barça Lassa players to reach double digits in points.

Power forward Pierre Oriola added 17 points and five rebounds to the winning effort. Shooting guard Pau Ribas dropped in 11 points and dished out a game-high 5 assists.

Guard Petteri Koponen and center Ante Tomic chipped in with 10 points each. Víctor Claver grabbed a game-high 7 rebounds.

But it was Barça’s strong defense that was perhaps the difference maker in this one, providing a steady stream of pressure to first-place Real Madrid’s efforts to establish itself on the low post.

A 9-0 Barça run in the first quarter was key to going up 21–14 by the start of the second. Another big run, this time 15-2 before halftime, helped give Barça an even bigger cushion, which was 42–29 at the intermission.

The second half saw Barça keep its foot on the gas. Ribas went to work from long range, while Heurtel continued to put on a show.

Barça went up 31 points at one point, at 90-59, before Real Madrid closed the gap slightly for the final margin of 22 points, the team’s biggest margin of victory over Real Madrid since 2009.
