Barça were unable to take the win against Baskonia, going down to a 96-72 defeat in the Buesa Arena. The game was virtually decided in the first quarter when the home side took an impregnable 31-7 advantage over the blaugranes. Sito Alonso’s team fought back but the difference was too great and the team from Vitoria eased to victory.

After losing Pau Ribas to a stomach bug before tip-off, the ill fortune continued with the visitors in inspired form to end the first quarter with a 24 point advantage. The Basque team were able to maintain their lead in the second quarter and at the break Baskonia were 58-30 ahead

In the second half of the contest, Barça improved defensively and were more effective on offense but by that time there was no way back for the blaugranes. Baskonia closed out the win by 24 points and the blaugranes now face Maccabi in the Euroleague in their next contest on Thursday 8 February.
