Darussafaka Dogus v FC Barcelona Lassa: Second quarter condemns blaugranas (67-56)

Barça Lassa were unable to recover from a poor second quarter despite a strong third quarter showing at the Turkish side's home stadium

Barça Lassa have lost away to Darussafaka (67-56) in a game which the blaugranas lost due to a poor second quarter score of 32-9. The positive reaction in the second half of the game was not enough to turn the situation around and Bartzokas’ side ended up losing by 11 points against the Turks.

The game started with a good Moerman score swiftly countered by three great three pointers in succession from Rice, Perperoglou and Víctor Claver to get the Catalans off the mark. At the end of the quarter there was not much in the game with Barça leading by two (13-11).

Turks dominate second quarter

Barça were not themselves during this period of the game and they were unable to react whilst the Turkish side built up an impressive lead. The home side scored 17 points to Barça’s two before Koponen’s three pointer halted the negative run. Darussafaka kept dominating though and they didn’t stop scoring points until the break finally arrived with a damaging score of 43-22.

The blaugranas respond

Bartzokas’ men started the third quarter with the intention of turning the game around and showing some pride and character. They managed to do so soon after the break as they scored five unanswered points before an Oleson three pointer cut the deficit even more. Perperoglou kept up the good work with two baskets in a row and Claver added a smash to Barça’s reaction.

Perperoglou, who led the Catalan’s comeback, scored a three pointer which gave Bartzokas’ side belief. They were on their game and attacking with intent as well as showing a big improvement in defence. Finally, the third quarter ended with a score of 53-42 with Barça having cut ten points from the Turks’ lead following a third quarter score of 20-10.

Not quite enough...

The Catalans went into the final quarter with little to lose and a lot to win. They tried hard to bring the scores level and in the first two minutes they were able to get within seven points of the home team, giving them hope that they could turn the game around. However, Darussafaka held firm and they managed to maintain their lead and secure a victory in front of their fans (67-56).
