Pau Ribas taking his medical on Friday morning / VICTOR SALGADO

Pau Ribas arrived at FC Barcelona Lassa on Friday and after passing his medical spoke to the press about his first impressions after joining the club from Valencia Basket.

“I’m very happy” he said. “It’s been a long journey, an unusual summer for me, but what I wanted to happen has happened. I didn’t want this chance to pass me by because these things don’t happen very often. Barcelona started showing an interest in me towards the end of last season and since then things have all happened very fast.”

“I’ve come here because I want to be able to challenge for every title on offer” he concluded.

Ribas, who was born in Barcelona 28 years ago, has signed on a three-year deal. The point and shooting guard has played for three different teams in the ACB. His first was Joventut, his boyhood club, then he was at Laboral Kutxa when they won the league in 2009/10 and after that he helped Valencia to Eurocup glory in 2014.

A player who has been named to the ACB Ideal X in the past, Ribas is the classic kind of team player that coaches always appreciate. He’s strong in both defence and attack and since making his ACB debut in 2005 has averaged 7.4 points and 2.2 assists, with an impressive 41% in 3-point attempts, 54% for 2-pointers and 85% for free throws in 303 games.

He also has ample European experience. With Joventut he won the FIBA Eurocup (2005/06) and ULEB Cup (2007/08) and played ten Euroleague matches in 2008/09. He played 50 continental ties while at Laboral Kutxa and added 20 more Euroleague games to his CV with Valencia Basket.
