Satoransky attempting to get away from Rudy / VÍCTOR SALGADO-FCB

FC Barcelona Lassa had control of Sunday’s Clásico against Real Madrid right up until the last quarter where they eventually succumbed to a five-point defeat.

Despite being the better side in the first three quarters, some fine play by Thompkins and Carroll for Madrid inflicted a painful defeat on the Catalans.

The 6,600 fans packed in the Palau Blaugrana came in expectance of a special afternoon. Abrines’ display in the opening quarter certainly got them off their feet with three successful trebles out of three.

Satoransky, Vezenkov and Samuels also played their part towards the end of the first quarter as Barça took a nine-point lead (26-17).

Oleson and Satoransky also got in on the three-point act early in the second quarter while Lawal returned to the court after an injury. Tomic and Doellman scored a couple of baskets between them while Madrid’ Rudy hit a treble right at the end of the half to reduce the deficit to 52-43 at the end of the halfway point.

Although trebles from Abrines, Doellman and Oleson gave Barça a 62-50 lead in the early part of the third, Rudy three-pointer moved Madrid closer to a comeback soon after, as the lead was cut to six.

The turning point came when Thomkins and Carroll got into gear – a treble from the former and two from the latter gave Madrid a six-point lead in the fourth period to put Barça on the edge. As the home side pushed to reverse the game, the visitors extended their lead and came away with a 91-86 away win.
