Shane Lawal in action under the boards / VÍCTOR SALGADO - FCB

The FC Barcelona Lassa basketball team had their revenge for their only defeat of the season so far by beating Turkish side Pinar Karsiyaka at the Palau thanks to an exhilarating offensive display. Xavi Pascual’s side were superior in every sense of the word with Arroyo excellent on three pointers and Tomic and Lawal dominant on the boards. The Barça fans paid tribute to Juan Carlos Navarro after his 1,000th game for the Club against Obradoiro and the captain responded by leading his side to a win that takes them top of their Euroleague group. Furthermore, Barça set a new club record in the competition with their points score, equalling tallies against Cibona Zagreb and Turow from 2002/03 and 2014/15 respectively.

The start to the game was far from easy for the blaugranes as in the opening minutes the game was tight. Yet little by little the home side opened up a gap and Arroyo’s form from the perimeter allowed Barça to have a 10 point gap of 26-16 at the end of the first quarter. The Turks did not fold under pressure as Ragland kept them in the game, helping to bring the score back to 36-29. Nevertheless, Xavi Pascual’s team turned it up a notch and ended the half 48-37 in front.

Spectacular scoring

The second half continued with a declaration of intent. Arroyo scored another three pointer - he would end the game with 6/7 - starting a quarter that would see the blaugranes rack up 31 points. Shooting from the outside was key in the first half but in the second Tomic exerted his influence on the inside, allowing Samuels and Shane Lawal to shine as a consequence.

With Ragland unable to score as freely as in the first half, Karsiyaka were limited offensively and had no answer to Barça on defence. The blaugranes’ tight defensive play was matched by the explosive presence of Lawal on offence. The Barça ‘9’ ended the game with 19 points, delighting the Palau with an exhibition of dunks. Every single player contributed to an excellent win that leaves Xavi Pascual’s side leaders in Group C of this season’s Euroleague.
