On Sunday at the Palau Blaugrana (5.30 PM CET), FC Barcelona take on Valencia Basket on a special day for Ante Tomic and Alex Abrines. The Croatian centre is making his 200th Liga Endesa appearance, while the Mallorcan shooting guard has made it to game 100.

Ante Tomic

Tomic is in his fifth season in the championship, the first two of which he spent at Real Madrid, where he played the first 106 of his matches. “I have played almost every game, and missed very few” he says. “I’ve been lucky in terms of injuries.”

“I am much more confident and much more mature now” he continues. “I have improved in defence thanks to the way we play at Barça, which means I do much more for the team.” He adds that his most memorable game was against Fuenlabrada in his first season at the Palau Blaugrana “I got the winning basket in that game, and it was my birthday too” he remembers.

Alex Abrines

Abrines also spoke about what it means to reach a landmark in the Spanish domestic championship. “This figure shows that I have become consolidated in this league” he says. “Now I need to take another step forward, become more of a protagonist and contribute more to the team.”

His most memorable match was when he was playing for Unicaja Malaga in the 2011/12 season. They played Asefa Estudiantes and he got 31 points, the youngest player in Liga history to break the 30 mark. “I wasn’t getting to play much” he comments. “And suddenly I had that game.” He has gone on to become the third highest scorer of 3-pointers in the league, with 99 in the same number of games and a conversion rate of 68%.
