Tomic and Reyes go head to head during the game / LIGA ENDESA

A disastrous final seven minutes, which saw Madrid score 23 points to Barça’s seven, meant Xavi Pascual’s side went down 91-78 at Vistalegre in round 28 of the Liga Endesa on Sunday lunchtime. Until those final few minutes, Barça had gone toe to toe with their hosts, thanks in large part to an excellent performance from Tomic(34 valuation) and had in fact been 68-71 ahead at one point in the final quarter, but in the end Juan Carlos Navarro’s league game number 600 ended in defeat.

With Ante Tomic proving key under the basket against Reyes and Ayón, Barça kept Madrid close in the first quarter, though the hosts took full advantage of a series of personal fouls and ended the first ten minutes 26-20 up. Although they then went on to put  some clear water between themselves and the visitors – leading by ten on 17 minutes (42-32), Madrid were again pegged back by a Barça side inspired by Tomic and the two went in for the break at 44-38.

In the third quarter Tomic got good support from Hezonja and Satoransky, whose three pointer put Barça ahead for the first time(52-53) on 27 minutes, a lead they held onto until the end of the quarter (61-63, min 30).

Satoransky continued to keep the score ticking over and with seven minutes left on the clock, Barça were 68-71 up. Then 14 unanswered points from a Carrol inspired Madrid broke Barça’s resistance as their hosts ran out clear winners.
