This Thursday afternoon, a delegation from the National Basketball Association (NBA), led by its Commissioner Adam Silver, was welcomed to the club facilities by the President of FC Barcelona, Josep Maria Bartomeu.

The NBA and FC Barcelona delegations met at the Palau Blaugrana, and shortly after paid a visit to the Club Museum followed by the presentation of personalised FC Barcelona shirts in the Camp Nou presidential box.

The visitors also included Mark Tatum, assistant to the commissioner; Salvatore LaRocca, president of NBA International; Ben Morel, president of EMEA (NBA); Rita Leblan, owner of the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans; Nick Arison, owner of the NBA’s Miami Heat; Steve Richard, senior international vice-president of the NBA and Robert Kramer, owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

FC Barcelona was also represented by Joan Bladé, its director responsible for the basketball section, Jordi Moix, director responsible for the FC Barcelona patrimony department, Nacho Mestre, FC Barcelona managing director, Albert Soler, FC Barcelona director of sporting and institutional relations and Joan Carles Raventós, director of FC Barcelona’s sports sections.

Excellent relations

Joan Bladé commented that “it’s very important that somebody like Adam Silver and several owners of NBA teams have come to visit our facilities and get to know our club. They were surprised by the global value of a club like FC Barcelona, and also the new Espai Barça, which means such a step forward for the club. They also appreciated how the club is only owned by its members.“

He continued by commenting on how “Barça collaborates with the NBA and the Euroleague because it makes even bigger than ever" and revealed that “Adam Silver has made the offer for an NBA team to come for the inauguration of the new Palau and make a big event of it. We have to study the proposal. We would be very pleased if it were to be a possibility.”

The NBA representatives are in Barcelona for the Basketball World Cup, for which the Palau Sant Jordi is one of the venues. Commissioner Adam Silver commented that "there have always been strong links between the NBA and Barça. I’d like an NBA team to inaugurate the new Palau.”
