FC Barcelona – Olympiacos: Away win for the Greeks (63-76)

The blaugranes lose the second game of their quarter-final tie against an inspired Greek side The tie moves onto Athens where Barça will have to win at least once to have a chance of making the Final Four

After Barça’s impressive win in the first game of their Euroleague quarter-final against Olympiacos, the Greeks struck back on Friday to level the contest with a 76-63 victory. The quarter-final moves to Athens next week following the blaugranes’ defeat in which only Navarro and Tomic, with 16 points and 14 points respectively, performed anything near their best.

It was clear from early on that Friday’s contest would bear little resemblance to Wednesday win for Xavi Pascual’s team. An Olympiacos side led by Spanoulis and Printezis helped silence the Palau in the first quarter and the Greeks led 15-10 going into the second quarter.

Spanoulis key for the visitors

Barça were playing catch up but Juan Carlos Navarro kept them in with a shout. A three pointer from Jackson threatened to kick start a blaugrana fightback as did 10 points in the first half from Navarro. Nevetheless, with the Greeks leading by 10 at half time, Spanoulis steadied the ship with two consecutive three pointers as the third quarter ended 56-45 in favour of Olympiacos. Printezis also chipped in in the final quarter and ended the game with 22 points, ahead of Spanoulis on 16. The Greeks kept the blaugranes at arm’s length in the fourth quarter and closed out the victory to pick up an important away win. The next game in the tie comes on Tuesday in Athens.
