FC Barcelona and Àlex Abrines, who seems set to become one of the pillars of the team, have reached agreement on a contract extension that will keep the Spanish youngster at the Club until June 2019.

Abrines joined Barça in 2012 from Unicaja and although he is still only 21, his progress has been impressive at the Club and he has already played for the full Spanish team. With a 48% success rate in the league and an average of 9 points a game (averaging 19 minutes on court), he was again nominated as part of the Liga’s Young Player team of the season.

In Europe, Abrines has played 23 games, averaging 7.6 points and 18 minutes a game. He has already won a Spanish Cup title with Barça in 2013 and a Liga Endesa in 2014 and looks set to win many more over the next four seasons.

"I’m grateful for the vote of confidence"

After the announcement of his new deal, Abrines commented: “I’m really happy and I am grateful for the confidence the board and the coaching staff have shown in me It’s an honour to continue to be at  a Club like Barça and I hope to repay that on court. I will work hard to continue growing as a player and to fight for all the titles we can. I’d also like to thank the fans, who have always been behind me. I feel very comfortable here. Right now it’s important to focus on Sunday’s game at the Palau and once the play offs start we’ll be fighting hard to win the Liga Endesa”.
