The newest addition to the Barça basketball squad, Maciej Lampe, was officially presented to the media on Wednesday.  Lampe was joined in the Palau Blaugrana press room by the Club director responsible for basketball, Joan Bladé, and technical secretary Joan Creus.  He told reporters, “Barça is an excellent club”. “I hope to work hard here and make people proud of me”.  His target in this new phase of his career is, “To win the Euroleague and the Spanish league, and also connect with the fans.  I want the fans to respect me as a player and have affection for me”

The 28-year-old has joined Xavi Pascual’s team after spells in the USA and Europe.  He revealed today that a move to Barça had been at the top of his wish list, and that the move comes at an important moment in his career: I believe I have reached a level of maturity in my career and I want to show people my best basketball here.

Settling in

Lampe started training this week following his participation in EuroBasket 2013 and even played a few minutes of the friendly against La Bruixa d’Or Manresa. “Xavi Pascual wants me to play a bit more as a four than a five.  I’ve been trying to lose weight to be more agile in that position.  I’m still settling in but training has gone well.  I want to be effective in both positions”.

“We want to strengthen our inside game”

Joan Creus told reporters that Lampe had been brought in “to strengthen the inside game”.  “He’s fast for his height both in defence and attack”.
