FC Barcelona – Valladolid: Placid morning for the Blaugrana (109-50)

Barça thrashed Valladolid this morning and regained confidence ahead of a hectic end of year schedule Erazem Lorbek, with 17 points, returned from injury on fantastic form

It was the easiest match of the season for Xavi Pascual’s men. In the first minutes it was evident that the Blaugrana were eager to do a good job after losing to CSKA and Unicaja this past week, and little by little they pulled away from their rival. The team went from 30 to 16 in the first quarter to 55-22 at the break. Ricard Casas’ men only scored six points in the second quarter and they allowed a run, between the first and second quarters, of 18 to 0. After the break Barça remained rampant and finished the match with 109 to 50 on the scoreboard.

Tomic sets the pace

One of the big differences between the two teams was Barça’s superior interior play. The home team started to pull away thanks to Tomic. The first big advantage for the Blaugrana was of eight points (16-8) and it jumped to 30 to 16 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Barça’s solid defence held Valladolid to only six points and the team’s attack pushed Barça to a 30+ point advantage 55 to 22.

Spectacle and more than 100 points for the first time this season

Nothing changed in the second half. More points, more rebounds and even more desire from Barça. Navarro, Abrines, Dorsey, Tomic, Lorbek and company continued to score and Barçe ended the quarter with an advantage of more than 40 points (87-44).

The last ten minutes saw Barça break the 100-point barrier for the first time this season. The man that took the team to the milestone was Mario Hezonja. The quarter also saw some of the players on the court who don’t get usual playing time in the competition, like Todorovic and Pullen, and the recently recovered Oleson and Lorbek.
