FC Barcelona will play in the semi-finals of the Spanish cup after beating Iberostar Tenerife in the last of the quarter finals. They were by far the better team this evening and will go on to face Valencia Basket on Saturday at 9.30 PM CET for a place in the Malaga final.

Barça flew straight out at Iberostar and their control of the rebounds saw them storm into an 8-2 lead. Tenerife immediately hit back to make it 10-9, but it was the Catalans that looked more comfortable in the Martín Carpena Arena. A 10-0 streak put them 20-11 up, and although Iberostar narrowed the gap again on the basis of free throws, the period ended with six points between the sides (22-16).

Nachbar and Richotti exchanged 3-pointers to start the second period, and Abrines added two more, with Dorsey adding to the spectacle with a dramatic slam-dunk. Barça were well in control by now, and as Tenerife’s confidence dwindled, the difference had grown to 20 points by the break (54-34).

Thoughts of Valencia

Iberostar Tenerife failed to produce any reaction and were mere spectators of a tremendous Barça display in the final 20 minutes. The Catalans already had their minds on Valencia and could afford to enjoy themselves, with 3-pointers flying in from all angles, with one each from Navarro and Papanikolau making it 69-46. Abrines in particular excelled against his former team, showing maturity on court despite the taunts of the opposing fans.

The game was already over, and Barça’s only target was to try to make it to three figures. A Sada three put them in touch (96-55), and the century was finally achieved by another triple, this time from Abrines to make it 102-57. Tenerife responded with three of their own, and that was how it ended 102-60.
