Erazem Lorbek was the Barça hero in tonight’s win over Lagun Aro, with a last gasp three pointer to give the team a win that had looked out of their grasp with a minute to platy when they were four points behind. Brad Oleson was the team’s top scorer with 26 points from a great performance that helped ensure the win which guarantees Barça’s third place in the regular season league table.

Big scoring

Both teams were positive in attack over the first two quarters, though the defences were not looking so sharp – something far from usual in Barça Regal. David Dobals and Raulzinho Neto were leading the Basque team’s effort, chalking up more than half of their team’s points.

The 29-29 score at the end of the first quarter shows both teams commitment to attack and the second quarter carried on in the same vein with Lagun Aro taking the initiative and with a seven point flurry during which time Huertas suffered a technical foul, Xavi Pascual’s team went in nine points down at 53-44.

Fightback begins...

The hosts went 11 points up soon after the break (55-44), but Barça hit back with Oleson helping to cut the defecit to five (65-60)on 28 minutes. Barça were also tightening up in defence and by the start of the final quarter there were just four points in it (70-66).

...and ends at the last

Barça Regal were on top in the last ten minutes as Lagun Aro – who’d put in a great 30 minutes – began to fade. With their defence looking strong now, Barça began to claw back the points and after Saras Jasikevicius scored five straight points to take the scores to 77-73, Oleson scored a thre pointer to put Barça in front (77-78). Then Sito Alonso again lifted the Basques with an 8-4 patial score that left the scores at 85-82 with just one minute to go.

After a run of free shots, Erazem Lorbek popped up to dramatically win the game with a three-pointer right on the hooter that made it 89-90 and will give the team a great boost of confidence going into the season’s climax.
