Barça Regal maintain the top spot of their Euroleague group despite losing to CSKA Moscow this evening

Barça Regal were denied the chance of closing out the first stage of the Euroleague undefeated when they lost to CSKA Moscow this evening. However, thanks to Barça’s 21-point victory in Moscow weeks ago, Barça finish the group stage as group leaders.

Russian dominance

CSKA Moscow came out swinging in the first quarter, and quickly jumped to a 0-7 lead before Lorbek knocked down a three pointer. The Blaugrana had a slow start, while the Russians, led by Kaun, got to minute 4 with a 10-point lead (3-13). Logically, Xavi Pascual called time out and sent in Sada and Navarro. The end of the first quarter ended with 19-24 on the scoreboard.

Four minutes into the second quarter, Jasikevicius was given a technical foul for protesting a rigorous call on the court, which infuriated the Palau Blaugrana (26-36). The battle in the paint was spectacular. Lorbek and Tomic took over after Saras’ technical, and led the team to a 21-1 run.

Two three pointers and a field goal from Navarro but Barça Regal in front for the first time of the game (38-36, min 16). In the blink of an eye, Barça jumped to a 10-point lead, which was brought back to six points before the break.

Tomic’s fourth personal foul at the start of the third quarter was a big blow to the Blaugrana. CSKA took advantage and quickly came within striking distance. The score was 58-55 at the end of the third quarter.

Teodosic wins the match

The home team were dominating but they couldn’t break free from their rivals. The two teams came into the final minute of play level (71-71). A genius three pointer from Teodosic with 41 seconds left on the clock tipped the scales in favour of the home team. The top spot, however, still belongs to Barça Regal.
