Joan Creus was the first to offer his take on Ante Tomic’s signing by Barça Regal. He did it during the Euroleague draw this Friday morning. FC Barcelona's technical secretary said that “we believe that Tomic is a player with a lot of quality and he’ll help us a lot this season. He has the necessary characteristics to be a Barça Regal player,” he said.

The Croatian power forward is the first summer signing for the Azulgranas but he might not be the last. One the of reasons Barça waded into the transfer market is due to the fact that there will be a dramatic increase in the number of games in the Euroleague's Top 16 round this season- has be increased to 14 from last year’s 6. “We have eight more very tough matches this year and we’re taking that into account as we plan for the season. Depending on how the transfer market plays out this year, the roster will be just right or a little larger than last year,” said Creus.

Complicated group

When asked about the Euroleague’s Group D, where Xavi Pascual’s man have been placed, the technical secretary highlighted the difficulty of the group and the amount of kilometers that the team will have to travel: “it’s fairly evident that any group in the Euroleague is complicated and we’re in a group with a very strong team right from the get go, CSKA Moscow. The other teams are also strong as well. We’ll have to make quite a few long journeys and we have to be aware of that. From now on, once the competition starts, we’ll have to see how everything goes.”
