FC Barcelona Regal have agreed to terms with Àlex Abrines. The Mallorca-born player will sign a four-year deal with the Club. Abrines arrives to Barça Regal after a two-year stint with Málaga, where he made his debut in the Liga Endesa.

The new Azulgrana player comes from a family that lives and breathes basketball. His father, Gabriel Abrines, also played in the ACB. He made his debut in the Liga with Huesca La Magia and then went on to play for Gran Canaria and Fuenlabrada. Center

18 matches in the ACB

Abrines was born in Palma de Mallorca on August 1 in 1993. He’s 196 cm tall and he can play in both the center and small forward positions. In the 2011/12 season he played 18 games in the Liga Endesa for Unicaja Málaga, before that he played for AEB La Salle Palma when he was 16. He divided his playing time between Málaga’s first team and LEB Oro, where he averaged 13.4 points per match in his 16 Liga Endesa games.

Converting as a ‘2’

Abrines’ is a standout offensive player. He’s a natural ‘2’ scorer, with a good long-range shot and capable of penetrating the paint. Last season he scored an average of 4.8 points, secured 1.6 rebounds and spent an average of 16 minutes on the court per game. His best performance in the Liga Endesa was on March 11, in the game against Asefa Estudiantes, where he scored 31 points and ended the game with an overall evaluation of 20. His 31 points were the highest point haul by any Spanish player in the 2011/12 season and the highest scoring performance for Málaga in two years.

Excellent Euro U-20 campaign

Abrines arrives to Barça after playing a pivotal role in the recent U-20 European Championship. In the semifinal match against the French team, the new Azulgrana player scored 15 points in 34 minutes. Despite his good performance he wasn’t able to carry the Spanish team to victory (59-66). He did, however, have better luck in the Bronze Medal game. Despite having niggling problems with his ankle, he scored 11 points. Spain won the match by a solitary point thanks to an Abrines three pointer with nine seconds left on the clock (66-67).
