Xavi Pascual held a press conference before Barça Regal set course for Istanbul to play their Euroleague game against Galatasaray. The manager said, despite the quality of the Turkish side, that he has every intention of winning the game. “Galatasaray is a very interesting and well balanced team. We’re going to play against a quality rival that does things well at home. Fans are starting to fill the Abdi Ipecki [Galatasaray’s stadium] again,” said Xavi Pascual.

Reunion with Jaka Lakovic

One of the highlights of the match will be Barça Regal’s reunion with ex-Barça player, Jaka Lakovic. The Barça Regal manager said that playing against players that were at one point part of the Club “is always special,” because they are players “that left a mark here.” “We’re very grateful for their service to the Club, now we have to play against them and we have to prepare ourselves well,” said Pascual.

On the right track

Xavi Pascual is certain that his side is on the right track: “Right now we’re doing things well. We’re not worried about how things are going. We’re more solid and improving daily. In general, the team is on the right track, not only in the outcomes of games, but in the general sense I get from the players.”

The Barça Regal manager said he hoped this wouldn’t be the team’s last trip to Istanbul, and that the objective was to reach the Final Four in Turkey. “We’re taking it step by step. We know that if we qualify for the Top 16 the road ahead will be very difficult. But we’re taking it day by day, to reach the Final Four in Istanbul is the objective,” said Pascual.

Despite Barça Regal’s good performance in the team’s last Euroleague game against Montepaschi, Xavi Pascual is preparing his following match from scratch: “We did well against a a very good team, but now we have a new challenge. We have a day and a half to prepare ourselves for the next match, we hope to make a good showing.”

Xavi Pascual finished the press conference talking about his next opponent, Galatasaray. “Their squad is great and they play good basketball; they’re dynamic, fast, and their movement off the ball is good. I believe they are a very good team. Even though they lost at home to Unics, I think it’ll be difficult to beat them,” said Pascual.
