FC Barcelona Regal has the Minicup! The U-14 team led by Óscar Orellana claimed their fifth crown in the youth tournament that’s played alongside the King’s Cup after beating Real Madrid (83-78). Pol Vives was named the MVP of the tournament.

The fifth Minicup title means that Barça is now the team with the most titles, beating out Juventut (four), in the competition. The Azulgranas have always made it to the final since the competition started in 2004, a fact that highlights the consistency of the team’s youth system.

Hard-fought final

The match was electric from the start. Barça won took the early lead against Los Blancos thanks to the López-Max Esteban duo (24-13). Bartolomé and Pol Vives carried the Catalan team to an ever larger lead at the half (50-33).

Madrid reacted in the third quarter and went on a 14-23 run, Barça only had an 8 point led with 10 minutes to go. Madrid scored three more points (68-65) and Bartolomé’s injury in the dying minutes of the match made things worse for the Barça side. However, Pol Vives came to the rescue and led his team to a well deserved victory.
