Barça Regal lost its second ACB League game this season at Vitoria. Barça fell to Caja Laboral in a game where they were always behind, where their poor start conditioned the rest of the match, where Navarro’s injury -problems with the plantar fascia in his left foot- in the second quarter played a huge role and the low amount of Barça scorers (only six players managed to score) were detrimental to Barça’s game. Barça Regal closes out the week, in which they also lost to Montepaschi, with a loss. The Catalans now share the top spot of the League with Madrid, both teams with 10 victories and 2 defeats.

Trailing from the start

Caja Laboral came out swinging and Barça Regal couldn’t cope. The home team went on a 9-2 run at the start and Pascual’s men were soft on defence and off the mark in their shooting. The first basket for Barça came three minutes into the game. The offensive issues started to become evident: Navarro wasn’t having a good night, the triples weren’t going in - at the break, none of the 12 three-point attempts had gone in. The Basques opened up their lead to +11 points. At the end of the first quarter, Barça Regal had only scored eight points. Worrying.

Eidson leads the reaction

The second quarter started with four fast fouls for Barça and with Navarro asking to be subbed because of his injury. He wouldn’t play for the rest of the game. Barça Regal hardened its defence and started to produce life signs on offence, especially Eidson, who scored six straight points. Pascual wanted more activity and tension on the court, where Vázquez was having a solid performance, one of the best visiting players on the night. Halftime came with Caja Laboral leading Barça 29-22.

Huertas plays Navarro’s part

Barça scored its first triple in the 22nd minute of the match. It was Huertas, who scored eight points in the third quarter, that sunk the shot. Between the Brazilian, Vázquez and Lorbek Barça managed to put the fear in their rivals as they reduced the deficit to only four points (40-36). From that point, the game had equalized, but there were only 10 minutes left on the clock. Barça stood its ground without Navarro.

Off-target shots return

When Barça was within striking distance they fell back into the rhythm they had in the first quarter. Pascual’s team needed more than four minutes to score, in that time Caja Laboral took advantage and opened up a +12 point lead (58-46). The Azulgranas never gave up, after absorbing a 7-0 run, they hit back with a 5-0 run of their own. Despite the hard work, Barça Regal never came close enough to truly scaring Caja Laboral, a team that knew how to manage the situation on the court and win the game.
