Barcelona came into the Euroleague with one clear objective: reach the Final Four in Milan. In the first round the team managed by Xavi Pascual were placed in a complicated group with CSKA, Fenerbahce and Nanterre, but the blaugrana responded well and reached the Top 16 with seven victories and only three defeats.

Barça were full of confidence going into the Top 16 and only dropped a game after they had secured the top spot in their group. With the team on form, the players managed to secure a 12-game winning streak, and thus sealed passage to the quarterfinals. After Match Day 10, Pascual’s men knew they were a seeded team, and sealed the top spot of the group after beating Panathinaikos on Match Day 12. In the final two games, with the objectives met, Barça were defeated by Armani Jeans and Laboral Kutxa.

Galatasaray waited for Barça in the quarterfinals. In the first match at the Palau, Barça secured a comfortable 88 to 61 victory. In the second match of the series, the bluagrana won again, this time 84 to 63. The team travelled to Turkey with the goal of closing out the series. The match was more complicated than the ones played in Barcelona, but Barça came through and sealed their passage to the Final Four (75-78). The 3-0 sweep was evidence that Barça were very much a contender in the Euroleague.

The draw paired Barça up with Real Madrid in the Final Four. Despite their good form, a bad night stopped the blaugrana from reaching the final after Real Madrid won 62 to 100. Pascual’s men went on to win the third and fourth place match against CSKA by 93 to 78.
