The FC Barcelona beach football team have won the world championship, beating Vasco de Gama on Sunday in the final of the World Club Championship held this week in Rio de Janeiro. The title was decided on penalties after Barça came back from a 4–1 deficit to take the victory in a hostile environment.

Barça had to fight against a local team backed by their numerous fans. Bokinha opened the scoring in the first minute of play. Catarino scored the second goal for the Brazilian club but then Barça's Datinha cut the lead in half. Marcos León and Bokinha, with his second goal, responded to extend the lead to 4–1.

But FC Barcelona did not surrender and team captain Amarelle led the comeback in the second and third quarters that forced overtime. Llorenç scored two goals and former Vasco de Gama player Bruno Xavier drew FCB back level.

After a scoreless overtime it came down to penalties. And Barça didn't miss. Llorenç, Ozu and Datinha made their kicks and goalkeeper Totohia stoned Bokinha.

Barça won the title in this fourth edition of the Club World Cup after beating Levante (3-2), Al-Ahli (4-3), Sporting Lisbon (8-6), and Al-Ahli (3-2) again in the semifinal. FC Barcelona's Ozu was named MVP of the tournament.
