London Penya hosts huge presence of Barça supporters

A welcome supper and a gathering in Piccadilly Circus are the highlights of the activities in the English capital

The Penya movement is the heart and soul of Barça support and games like the one with Chelsea are prime examples. More than 330 members of 150 different penyes arrived in London from around the world to watch the game live.

The hosts of this major mobilisation of supporters, were the Penya Blaugrana London, organisers of two events that topped the agenda.

Welcome supper

The supper the night before the Champions League last sixteen encounter was held in their club house, where the guests included Antoni Guil, President of the FC Barcelona Supporters Clubs World Confederation, Josep M. Barnils, Director in Chief of the FC Barcelona Social Commission, Eduard Manas, President of the PB London and Jennifer Velasco, the Catalan Government’s Head of Political Relations with the United Kingdom. The event was officially closed by Mr Barnils, who presented a gift to Mr Manas and Mrs Velasco.

The fun, friendly atmosphere presented a fine opportunity to exchange opinions and concerns ahead of the high profile encounter at Stamford Bridge.

Piccadilly Circus coloured blaugrana

On Tuesday, Piccadilly Circus became the hub for supporters, where they were joined by the President of the World Confederation of Penyes, Antoni Guil as they revved the engines ahead of the game and prepared to cheer on the first team stars in such a difficult but important fixture. There is no doubt about it, this was blaugrana passion at its inimitable best.
