Bartomeu, Arda, Munir, Sandro, Aleix Vidal and Robert Fernández, during the Penyes Congress / VÍCTOR SALGADO-FCB

The new first team technical secretary, Robert Fernández, and the new members of the FC Barcelona first team, Aleix Vidal and Arda Turan, were presented to the Penyes Congress in the Palau de Congressos along with youngsters Munir and Sandro, who have become full-time members of the first team roster.

Josep Maria Bartomeu was there for the event as Fernández said “I am very grateful. We’ll be unstoppable and you know that this is needed.” Aleix Vidal added that “I am returning to my former home and hope I can stay here until the end of my career.” Arda Turan added in Spanish that “Barça is the best team in the world.”

The threesome then shook hands with the presidents and representatives of the penyes and posed for protocol photographs with president Bartomeu.

Good times for the penyes

Speaking to 1,057 supporters club members, Bartomeu reviewed the great moment for the club in social terms, with the creation of the World Confederation of Penyes, saying that “the club now has over 150,000 supporters club members around the world.” Jordi Cardoner went on to discuss some of the movement’s policies and Pau Vilanova described future challenges grouped under the heading of “Socis fem Penya” (members make supporters clubs).

The congress also rendered a heartfelt tribute to Edmundo Bazo, president of the Medrid federation, who died last June. His widow and three children were in attendance and were able to appreciate how much Bazo meant to the movement.
