Vitoria was the venue on Saturday 5 March for the VIII Euskadi Barça Supporters Clubs Meeting, organised by the Penya Barcelonista Vitoria-Gasteiz Euskobarça, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.

The FC Barcelona board was represented by first vice-president Jordi Cardoner, director and head of Penyes Pau Vilanova and Maria Teixidor.

The Basque federation arranged the event to coincide with the team’s visit to Eibar, making the weekend a particularly vibrant gathering of Barça sentiment.

On Saturday, the Ibaiondo Social Club in Vitoria hosted a children’s party and a debate involving Pau Vilanova, former footballer Juan Carlos Rodríguez, former basketball player José Luis Galilea and the president of the Penya Barcelonista Vitoria-Gasteiz Euskobarça, Gorka Muñoz.

Hotel Lakua was then the venue for a meeting of Basque penya presidents, who were welcomed by the sound of a traditional local instrument, the txalaparta, and Rioja wine.

There was also an aurresku dance in the build-up to a gala supper attended by some 200 people in a true display of Barça fellowship, with the Barça grandfather Joan Casals and Alavés president Alfonso Fernández also among the guests, and a special cake enjoyed to celebrate the host club’s silver anniversary. This was followed by speeches and the traditional exchange of gifts, with FC Barcelona receiving a typical txapela and presenting a lithograph.

Cardoner encouraged Barça supporters clubs in the Basque region to “continue your good work, which the club is always grateful to you for, and urges you to continue spreading the values that we stand for.”

The whole weekend enjoyed an excellent turnout from the clubs in Euskadi, and the wonderful atmosphere on both days was a further example of the affection that so many Basque people feel for FC Barcelona in this part of the world.
