Barcelonès Est region organises charity tournament on June 28

The Federació de Penyes Barcelonistes de Barcelonès Est is once again organising its annual charity tournament, this year to raise funds for the Somriures Valents Foundation that works for boys and girls suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy in order to help them live normal childhoods.

The tournament takes place on Sunday 28 June on the field belonging to the Penya Barcelonista Barcino, at C/ Menorca 7-11, in the Sant Martí district of Barcelona.

20,000 new cases in the world every year

A hereditary mutation to the gene that processes dystrophin causes the muscles to lose strength and slowly wear away means that children suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy end up being totally dependent. 20,000 new cases arise every year around the world, and there are currently some 500 children suffering from the disease in Spain.

The supporters clubs in Barcelonès Est have decided that they would like to do their bit to help these children, and everyone is invited to come along and enjoy the day.
