The classic Barça Supporters Clubs Tournament got under way on Saturday, which is played year after year around the time of the Joan Gamper Trophy. A total of twenty two U12 and U10 teams are playing on pitches 8 and 9 of the Ciutat Esportiva de Sant Joan Despí. The finals in both categories will be played next Sunday at 17.00. The winning team will be invited by the Qatar Foundation to attend the game between Barça and Real Sociedad on the same day at 21.00.

New fair-play cards

There is a new feature at the Supporters Clubs Tournament this year. The winners, as well as the second and third placed teams, will be getting trophies. There will also be awards for the top goalscorer and the team with the best defensive record. But the Supporters Clubs Tournament will also be offering the Josep Maria Profitós Fair Play Trophy. This will involve referees giving out fair-play cards during matches.

There are 260 young players involved in the competition, which all form part of the 35th World Meeting of Supporters Clubs. The clubs attending include the Penya Blaugrana de Caracas (Venezuela) and will be watched by several talent scouts.
