On Sunday morning, work started at the Palau dels Congressos de Catalunya on the XXXIII World Congress of Barça Supporters Clubs, which involved more than 400 participants. The aim being to reinforce the movement, the supporters club members divided into three commissions to debate the core issues of the XXXV World Meeting.

A speech by the vice president of the FC Barcelona Social Area, Jordi Cardoner i Casaus, welcomed the supporters to the morning session. The director also took the opportunity to comment on how the supporters movement is increasingly better structured. The director in chief of the Social Commission, Pau Vilanova, and the spokesman for the Supporters Clubs Advisory Council, Antoni Guil, covered similar ground in their own speeches.

Issues for debate

The Sala Auditori was the venue for the commission whose core issue is Territorial Organization and the Supporters Club Regulations. The new structure contemplates and recognises supporters club federations and groups as the territorial representatives of supporters clubs.

In Sala F, the main matter was the Identity of Supporters Clubs and their Members. The session evaluated the protocol and process for reliably and accurately measuring the real size of the movement. Finally, in Sala J, the issue was an international one, involving an analysis of the movement on a global scale and also establishing the basis for functional organisation.

“The clubs have to decide on their self-management. They have the main responsibility. It is an area that will require a lot of work”, said Jordi Cardoner to Barça TV.

After debating all these subjects in the different spaces of the Palau dels Congressos, the FCB supporters club members then went to enjoy dinner at the Ice Rink, where they were visited by Barça B players Ilie Sánchez and Sergio Araujo, and were able to enjoy a performance by Pep Plaza.

World Congress closes on Monday

The institutional day on Monday will start with a welcome from President Sandro Rosell and will end with the gala dinner. The session will also present the verdicts of the Commissions and will proceed with voting on the Keynote Address.
