On occasion of its tenth anniversary, PB Els Tamarells celebrated its Champions Gala on Friday night, which honoured a number of top sports personalities from the islands, as well as FC Barcelona. The anniversary also tied in with the X Meeting of Balearic Island Barça Supporters Clubs.

FC Barcelona was represented by its vice president Jordi Cardoner, the director of the Social Commission Sergi Rosell and treasurer Manel Mangado, the venue being the town of Campos, and attended by 750 people and 26 supporters clubs. The president of the Penya Barcelonista Els Tamarells, Sebastià Oliver, was presented with a signed first team shirt.

Excited about Barça

Jordi Cardoner is delighted to see how much support for FC Barcelona is growing on the islands. He said that “Barça is still creating much excitement all around the world. Barça festivals like this are the best examples of what’s happening behind the scenes of football, where people get together and promote Barça in the territory”.

Distinguished sportspeople

The Champions Gala honoured the following sportspeople: Toni Nadal, coach of tennis player Rafael Nadal; Albert Torres, cyclist at the London Olympics; Mar Bonnín, Spanish champion cyclist 2012; Lorena Homar, swimmer at the London Paralympics; Brigitte Yagüe, world taekwondo champion and Olympic medallist; Marc Carmona, coach of the FC Barcelona futsal team; ex handball superstar David Barrufet; basketball first team players Juan Domingo de la Cruz and Andrés Jiménez, and former footballers Miquel Àngel Nadal, Juan Carlos Unzué and Jon Andoni Goikoetxea.

Supper, speeches and entertainment

The celebrations continued with dinner and speeches, as well as a performance by comedian Oriol Cruz from TV show ‘Crackòvia’, who delighted the guests with a half-hour set of impersonations, including his famous one of Andrés Iniesta.

Strong team

Barça were of course in the islands this weekend to play Mallorca in La Liga. Jordi Cardoner spoke about how strong the team is at the moment, adding that “we have a great team made up of immense players”.
