PSG – FC Barcelona: Exit with head held high (2-0)

Xavi Llorens' team go down 2-0 against PSG as their excellent run in the UEFA Women's Champions League comes to an end

Barça Women were unable to make it past Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final going down 2-0 in France to bring their historic run in this season’s competition to an end. The blaugranes dominated possession in the French capital and had the better of the game but suffered an undeserved defeat thanks to two second half goals from the Parisians.

Bárbara Latorre’s goal in the 3-1 defeat in the first leg in the Miniestadi gave Barça a reason to hope ahead of the second leg. Xavi Llorens’ team had the better of the opening exchanges and could have gone ahead, first through Ruth Garcia and then Miriam, inside the opening 15 minutes.

The French team struggled to create chances in the opening 45 minutes with Line Roddik and Ruth Garcia in excellent form for the visitors. At half time the team went off goalless and Barça still had hopes of turning things around in the second half.

However, 10 minutes after the break came a hammer blow with Delannoy scoring form the spot to give PSG a 1-0 lead. The game and the tie were killed off just six minutes later when ill fortune saw Miriam put the ball past her own goalkeeper. Barça had chances to pull one back via an effort from Marta Torrejón and Leila but it was not to be for Xavi Llorens’ side.

Nevertheless, Barça Women reached the last four of the competition for the first time in their history, establishing themselves amongst the elite of European football.
