The Catalan team's players celebrating one of the goals | MIRKO KAPPES

FC Barcelona Women will be in the draw for the quarter finals of the UEFA Women's Champions League for a second year in a row after convincingly beating FC Twente 4-0 thanks to goals from Marta Torrejón, Andressa Alves, Bárbara Latorre and Ange Koko.

Xavi Llorens's players visited the Twente Stadion just a year following the victory achieved last season in the first lef of the Champions League's round of 16. This victory put Barça on the road to the quarter finals and they confirmed this at the Miniestadi. This time the Catalans decided the outcome in the first leg and finished it off in style with a great victory in Holland.

The game started with Twente attempting to control the game, conscious of the need to score a goal to try and level the tie. The Barça players looked assured in defence and barely gave the Dutch any chances on goal and when they found a way through Sandra Paños excelled in goal.

A goal that shifted momentum

Having overcome the intense pressure that the home team put on the visitors in the first minutes of the game, Barça started to have more of the ball and the first clear chance of the game fell to Olga Garcia. Her powerful shot was tipped round the post by Lorsheyd. The subsequent corner ended in the opening goal for the Catalans as a delivery to the second post was finished by Marta Torrejón after Ruth had headed back towards goal. This goal in the 18th minute sucked the energy out of the crowd and added to Barça's first leg lead.

Over by half time

The tie was effectively finished by the end of the first half. After Alexia's good control inside the box, she laid the ball off to Andressa Alves and the Brazilian put the ball in the back of the net giving Barça a 2-0 lead in the 38th minute.

The second half started and the Catalans continued to dominate in both defence and attack. The third goal almost arrived with a long-range Olga shot and an excellent Alexia Putellas move down the right ending in a cross which Olga almost reached. Barça were clearly on top and were threatening the Dutch goal.

Strength on the bench

Koko and Latorre came on and gave the team an extra impetus to get that third goal. Koko was electric on the right and her speed caused lots of problems for the home team. Her wing play was central to the third goal scored by Bárbara Latorre from a Koko cross in the 78th minute. And the Ivory Coast international rounded off the night with a goal of her own four minutes from time.

This result takes Llorens' team into the quarter finals of the UEFA Women's Champions League for the second year running and the third time in four seasons. The tie turned out to be similar to last season's with a convincing round of 16 victory against Twente. The draw will be held on the 25 November.
