Barça’s Women’s team had their Open Media Day on Monday at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper following a preparatory training session ahead of their UEFA Women’s Champions League last 16 tie against Twente, the first leg of which is to be played this Wednesday in Holland at 7.00pm CET. The blaugrana coach Xavi Llorens admitted that his team are going into the game highly motivated after their impressive win over the Fundación Albacete at the weekend: “We are aware of how difficult the game will be, but we are motivated to get through the tie.”

Further comments from the Barça coach and the Women’s team:

Xavi Llorens

“Twente are strong opponents, similar to us in terms of style of play. They are strong defensively, aggressive and they work very hard, above all, they have quick and skilful strikers.”

“We know that Twente knocked out Bayern, despite the fact that the Germans were the better side, they [Twente] knew how to make the most of their chances. I compare it to the situation we found ourselves in last year in the tie against Bristol.”

“It’s marvellous that there are so many people who want to see this game. We will have to think of it as a motivation for us. We like this kind of atmosphere.”

Jennifer Hermoso

“A game in the Champions League is always am extra motivating factor and we are really looking forward to it.”

“I am happy with my performances. I am helping the team with my goals. Last season it was not like that and now I am enjoying chances to score and in this team there is no shortage of opportunities.

Alexia Putellas

“After the injury worries I felt good and I scored four goals on Sunday and that gives you confidence. I needed a game like that one against Albacete. We are united and motivated.”

“Twente are a strong team physically, they are quick and they have a good team. It will be key to score over there and keep a clean sheet.”

Míriam Diéguez

“We are excited and the idea is to get to the quarter-finals. We know that it we will have to compete at our best, above all to get a positive result to take back to the Minestadi.”

“We have the reference point of them knocking out the German Champions last season. They are tough and they play good football. It will be a competitive match and we hope to have a chance up until the final.”
