Real Sociedad v FC Barcelona: Up for the cup

The Copa de la Reina gets going on Saturday at Las Rozas in Madrid with a 10.00am CET quarter final against the side that finished fith in the league

After fine campaigns for the Barça women in both the league and Champions League, neither of which was rewarded with the title, their final target of the season is the Copa de la Reina. That quest starts on Saturday at 10.00am CET against Real Sociedad at Las Rozas.

Barça have won this trophy three times since 2011 but went out at the semi-final stage to Valencia in last year’s edition.

This tournament is contested by the eight highest finishers in last year’s league season, and results from league meetings this season point in favour of Barça. They won 3-0 away and 1-0 when they recently met at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper

The other quarter finals are Athletic Bilbao v Levante, Valencia v Granadilla and Atlético Madrid v Sporting Huelva.

Barça have taken a squad of eighteen to Madrid. The injured Mariona Caldentey, Pilar Garrote, Leire Landa and Andreia Norton have all missed out, while Aitana Bonmatí and Gemma Font of the reserve team have made the trip.
