The Catalans ran away with it in the second half / VICTOR SALGADO - FCB

FC Barcelona Women coasted to a 5-1 home win over Santa Teresa on Sunday which puts them within four points of Atlético Madrid at the top of the table.

The visitors set out to defend deep and limit Barça’s typical style of play, and while Xavi Llorens’ side dominated possession they found it difficult to break down their opponents, in the early stages. Jennifer Hermoso had a shot cleared off the line while Melanie had a header saved by Orellana.

Just when it looked as though the two sides would go into the break level, Barça got the luck their efforts merited as Paula López scored an own goal to give the hosts the lead.

Floodgates open in second half

With the deadlock broken, the visitors were obliged to open up which Barça took full advantage of. Jenni’s effort was spilled into the path of Bárbara who made it 2-0 on the rebound, a couple of minutes after the restart. Jenni then added her name to the scoresheet on 57 minutes with a delicate left-footed strike into the far corner.

Another own goal, this time by Menayo made it 4-0 on 75 minutes while Bárbara made it five moments later after rounding Orellana. Santa Teresa grabbed a consolation in the final moments with a penalty from Lima but Barça came away with a big win from Week 11 of the First Division.
