Jenni Hermoso fights for possession against PSG / VÍCTOR SALGADO - FCB

FC Barcelona Women earned a 0-0 draw against Paris Saint-Germain at Miniestadi in the first leg of the Champions League quarter final.

The quality throughout the French side was well-documented ahead of the game and it was on full show in Barcelona on Wednesday evening.

Led by the ever-dangerous Shirley Cruz, PSG looked a constant threat, though they were unable to muster a clear goal-scoring opportunity in the first half. Cristiane’s header was about as close as they came with Barça having to sit deep to absorb the French pressure.

Barça knew they were in for a tough game and their resolve was put to the test in the second half as PSG began to cause real havoc.

The first warning sign of the second period came on the hour mark with a wonderful effort from Hamraoui which sailed just wide of the post. Georges then rose well to meet an inswinging corner but the defender's header looped just over the bar.

In the 90th minute came the best chance of the match as some fine work from Marie-Laure on the left touchline resulted in a perfect cross for an unmarked Dali but the second-half substitute headed just wide.

While there was no winner on the field, women’s football earned a big victory as the Miniestadi saw a record attendance of 8,369 spectators.

The result means Barça are still very much in the tie heading into the second leg in the French capital, which takes place next Wednesday at 8.30pm CET.
