FC Barcelona v Atlético Féminas: Turning the page as co-leaders (1-0)

The women earn a big win over Atlético that draws them even with Athletic Club

Important win for the FC Barcelona Women on Sunday over Atlético Féminas by 1-0 that puts them even with Athletic Club atop the table with 24 points. Barça, however, have a game in hand due to their postponed match versus Rayo Vallecano. Still recovering from Thursday's clash with Bristol, Barça was led to victory by Willy's 20th minute goal.

Fighting for first

Well aware of the implications of today's match on the league standings, both sides came out fighting in the first half.  After a balanced quarter hour of play, Barça's persistence paid off when Willy finalised after taking the ball from Sonia and Alexia, sending the team's first shot on goal of the day into the net for what would eventually be the game-winner.

Just minutes later, Barça keeper Ràfols had to make a pair of nice stops to preserve the lead. They had some chances to widen the lead before the half but were thwarted by Lola's solid goalkeeping for Atlético.

Ràfols decisive

FC Barcelona controlled the second half with several scoring opportunities, most notably by Virginia and Corredera, that couldn't find the netting.

While a second score couldn't come soon enough, Barça almost conceded the equaliser on two occasions. The most dangerous was a 69th minute cross from Priscila to Débora, whose soft header went directly to a perfectly positioned Ràfols. Atlético didn't give in, and spent the final twenty minutes continuing to test the Barça netminder.

Barça had to fight until the final whistle to preserve the win and turn the page on last week's disappointing exit from the Champions League while, at the same time, putting them into a first-place tie in the league standings alongside Athletic Club.
