The FC Barcelona Women's A team during a training session last season

Xavi Llorens’ FC Barcelona Women’s A team returned to training a couple of days ago in preparation for the upcoming 2012/13 season. The manager announced that the team is complete and that there will no more additions before the season opener. The Women’s team, made up of 22 players, will fight to defend the Superliga title won last year and, for the first time in Club history, challenge for the Women’s European Championship.

Five additions and three departures

Most of last year’s core group of players will be on hand this season. In fact, only three players - the keeper Elixabete Sarsola, the midfielder Ludimila Manicler and the forward Montse Tomé - have left the Club ahead of the season opener on September 2nd. Sarsola is off to the United States, and Manicler and Tomé, are returning to Argentina and Oviedo, respectively.

To cover the holes left by the three outgoing players, Llorens has brought in Esther Sullastres, Virginia Torrecilla, Gemma Gili and Alexis Putellas, plus Zaira Flores, who has been promoted from the Women’s B team this year.
