Sixth consecutive victory in the Superliga after seeing off Llanos Olivenza in Extremadura. Goals from Ani, Sonia Bermudéz, Carol and Olga put the definitive 0-4 on the scoreboard in a match that showed the FC Barcelona women’s team’s best qualities.

The team was hosted by Llanos Olivenza, in a stadium that has been too much for almost any visitor this season. Six of the eight wins this season for the home side, where they’ve won 20 of their 29 points, were won at home. Llanos currently sits in the eleventh position of the table.

Barça, however, just like in the match of the first half of the season, kept a clean sheet and put in a great performance that allows the Barça side to maintain the top spot in the table with 76 points. Xavi Llorens’ players started off the game with purposeful determination; Sonia Bermúdez was the most dangerous player for FC Barcelona.

Securing the points in the first half

The red and whites were not able to create many goal scoring chances. Carol, on 20 minutes, finished off a great individual play with a shot from the edge of the area - but the ball skipped just past the post. The next chance, halfway through the first half, fell to Marta Corredera. The Barça player had a one-on-one with the opposing keeper, but her shot didn’t find the back of the net. However, Xavi Llorens’ plan was working perfectly. On a corner kick, Ani netted the opener through a brilliantly executed strategic play.

Before the half, Barça increased their lead with a second goal. Sonia chipped the keeper and all but sealed another FC Barcelona victory. However, Llanos Olivenza tried to fight back but their attempts were stopped by an incredible Ráflos and the crossbar.

Dominating the second half

At the start of the the second half, Carol guaranteed the three points after taking advantage of a good pass from Marta Corredera. FC Barcelona’s three front players kept on prodding the home team’s defence and Olga, who came on for Vicky, closed out the scoring with shot to the upper 90° of Llanos’ goal. This was Barça’s sixth consecutive victory - now they can focus on the Catalan derby next week against L’Estartit at the Ciutat Esportiva.
