The FC Barcelona women’s football team won another game this weekend, this time against Málaga Atlético, which takes the team’s winning streak to five in the Primera División. The team led by Xavi Llorens is putting in spectacular numbers this season, they’ve won 23 out of 25 games, they’ve only conceded one draw (against Espanyol) and one loss (Rayo Vallecano).

Many goalscoring chances for Barça

The game started with the stands packed with excited fans that didn’t want to miss Barça’s visit. The Azulgranas controlled the match from the start against the team that currently sits in the 13th position of the table, while the local team came out to defend their goal. Despite the lack of space, Barça found a way through as they created a couple of good chances to break the deadlock. None of their shots, however, found their mark. The first half came to an end with a 0-0 on the scoreboard.

Barça scores

The second half picked up where the first left off.  The women led by Llorens performed well defensively to deny the Málaga side any chances on Ràfols’ goal. Barça kept on the attack and were finally rewarded on 67 minutes thanks to a good shot by Carol. The Barça player controlled the ball and nailed an unstoppable shot past the Málaga keeper. The goal gave the Catalans confidence and two minutes later, Olga scored Barça’s second with a shot from outside the box after a great give and go with Sònia.

The team wasn’t content with just two goals and Vicky did well to make it three on 74 minutes. The Barça player broke the offside trap and beat the Málaga keeper.

The FC Barcelona women’s team will host Transportes Alcaine next week.
