The two captains shaking hands before the game / NIKE ACADEMY

A dream fulfilled - that is what the 18 man FC Barcelona U19B squad repeated to themselves after their trip to London to play in a friendly game against the Nike Academy. The experience is one that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

A tight encounter

Despite the fact that the majority of the players from the English outfit were several years older than their Barça counterparts, Quique Álvarez’s side did not shy away from the challenge and the blaugranes had several chances early on the game to take the lead in the famous Wembley Stadium. Nevertheless, it was the Nike Academy who took the lead with a strike that came from a corner.

1-0 down at half time, Barça came bouncing back in the second half and Monchu levelled things with a goal that he will surely never tire of recounting in years to come. The same player had a chance to put the blaugranes ahead as did Edgar and Abel, the latter’s effort from outside the box just floating wide. Nike Academy got the winner with just five minutes remaining, much to the delight of the 1,000 fans who were in attendance at Wembley Stadium.

Against Europa on 3 December

On Saturday evening Quique Álvarez and his squad returned to Barcelona after having watched the Clásico between Barça and Real Madrid on their way to airport in the United Kingdom. The league game against Europa that they were forced to postpone this weekend in order to take on Nike Academy at Wembley will now be played on Thursday 3 December at 8.30pm CET at the Nou Sardenya Stadium in Barcelona. Leaders Damm this weekend were held to a draw by Badalona giving Quique Álvarez’s team the chance to regain some ground in the league table.
