Juvenil A – Celtic FC: Flawless leaders (3-0)

Two errors from the keeper Oberschmidt led to the first two goals of the match, scored by Godswill and Álex; Moha scored the third from the penalty spot

The FC Barcelona Juvenil A team claimed victory in the final match of the UEFA Youth League group stage. In a game that had no impact in the final outcome of the group standings, the team managed by Jordi Vinyals comfortably defeated Celtic FC by 3 to 0 thanks to goals from Godswill, Álex and Moha (p). The victory was secured thanks, in part, to two errors from Oberschmidt. FC Barcelona now await the draw for the Round of 16, which is scheduled for December 16. The Round of 16 one-off playoff will be played at the Miniestadi.

0-0 at the break

Neither of the teams were playing poorly. Barça had the top spot of the group all tied up and Celtic came into the match without any hope of reaching the next round of the competition. Both teams, however, looked to seal the three points as soon as the referee blew the starting whistle. The Blaugrana came close to scoring the opener when Rolón headed the ball to the woodwork. Minutes later, Celtic nearly took the lead thanks to Henderson and Johnstone.

No mercy

The second half was clearly dominated by Barça. Celtic were pinned back and Vinyals’ men took full advantage of Oberschmidt’s errors. First, the keeper poorly cleared a free kick which allowed Godswill to score the opener. With a quarter of an hour left, Álex took advantage of an errant pass to make it 2-0.

Two errors too many decided the match, a match that ended with a penalty scored by Moha on 88 minutes. Before the conclusion of the game, Celtic nearly pulled one back, but it was too late.
