The Youth A team kick off one of the most exciting challenges of this season on Tuesday evening, when Ajax provide the opposition in the first game of the UEFA Youth League (20.00, Barça TV and fcbarcelona.cat) at the Mini Estadi.

The squad went through their final training session before the game on Monday and coach Jordi Vinyals explained: “the lads are very excited to be taking part in such an attractive competition. They’ve put in a fine pre-season and won their first two league games, so they are coming into this looking pretty good”.

“We know that Ajax play a 4-3-3 system and we know what their philosophy of football is all about, but we don’t know as much about the 11 players they will be sending out to face us on Tuesday”.

Competition to help youngsters progress

The new UEFA competition is aimed at helping the progression of under-19 players and Vinyals commented: “at the Club, we want our players to become used to this kind of competition, where Europe’s top youth teams are playing”.

The competition is made up of the youth teams from the 32 clubs involved in the Champions League and the groups are the same as those of the senior side, with Celtic and Milan providing the other opposition for Barça’s youngsters. The top two teams get through to the knock out stage, where, unlike the senior tournament, games will not be played over two legs.

Free entry

Entrance to the game at the Mini is free for members and the general public, as will be all games at the stadium in this competition, and no tickets need to be pre-purchased.

Jordi Vinyals called on all Barça fans to come along and support the team this Tuesday, stressing the high quality of players on show: “we hope the fans will come to the Mini and enjoy the players who will soon be making their mark in the B team. Ajax will also be bringing their best players, who are bound to be figuring sooner or later for the first team”.

Live coverage

The game will also be covered live on BarçaTV and www.fcbarcelona.com - where the game will be live streamed in Catalan, Castilian and English.
