Òscar García's U19 team excelled in their second to last game of the group stages of the NextGen Series at the Miniestadi by beating Manchester City 4-1. The win would have been even bigger had it not been for a terrific display by visiting keeper Johansen, City's best player by far.

Win sorted in first half

FCB had most of the work done by half time. Both teams looked to dominate possession, but Barcelona were more effective in attack, with Sandro Ramírez on fire.

In the 25th minute, Bakoyoc broke down the right wing and crossed for Ramírez to strike home. Minutes before, former Espanyol man Joan Roman could almost have made it 1-0 to City, but his effort went wide.

It was 2-0 after 34 minutes. Once again Sandro Ramírez demonstrated his goalscoring instinct as he finished off a move started by Alex Moreno. David Babunski almost made it three just before the break with a long range effort, but Johansen turned the ball behind for a corner.

Bombardment of Johanson's goal

Far from easing off, the U19s put their feet on the accelerator in the second half and it was down to an inspired Johanson to prevent a humiliation for the sky blues. The Norwegian saved efforts from Oriol Rosell, Babunski, Gustavo and Sandro but couldn't stop a 70th minute free kick from Miquel Àngel Sainz.

Manchester City were doing little to trouble Bañuz's goal despite some nice combination football in midfield. Barça defended brilliantly, and were insatiable in attack, making it 4-0 after 85 minutes thanks to an absolute scorcher, with Babunski backheeling to Sandro who laid on the assist for Gustavo to score the goal of the night. City grabbed a consolation goal through Hiwula, who converted a cross from Cole, the son of the former Manchester United striker that once formed such a lethal partnership with Dwight Yorke.

The win guarantees Barcelona a place in the last sixteen of the NextGen Series with a game in hand. Their last game is on November 24 at the Miniestadi against Glasgow Celtic.
