FC Barcelona’s youth system closed out the 2011/12 season this Tuesday with a dinner at the gardens of La Masia Centro de Formación Oriol Tort. President Sandro Rosell, along with vice presidents Josep M. Bartomeu and Jordi Cardoner, and the directors Jordi Mestre, Toni Freixa and Josep Ramon Vidal-Abarca were in attendance.

It was a special event because this is the first time the new Masia has hosted an end-of-year ceremony.

Congratulations for the good season

Rosell address the 400 children: “congratulations to the players for being able to play for Barça. Most people do not have this privilege, the success, the talent or the attitude to be able to be here. You are the chosen.” The FC Barcelona president encouraged the youth players to continue with their scholastic studies and urged them to show great humility because “you defend the crest you carry on your chest, it represents a great Club.”

Rosell also addressed Jordi Mestre, the director responsible for Barça B, Juvenil A (U18) and the youth system, and the players “appreciate the fact that you are part of La Masia. It’s a privilege.” Guillermo Amor, technical director of Barça’s youth system, congratulated the players “not only for the titles you’ve won but for the behaviour that you’ve had along the way.”

Recognition for this year’s hard work

Enric Farré, Josep Iñesta and Emili Latore, delegates of Barça’s youth system who are retiring this year, and Fran Sánchez, manager of the reserves since 1997, were recognized for their work with the children. Rosell awarded them commemorative plaques that acknowledge their time at FC Barcelona. Rosell also praised the work done by the Sporting Commission, the managers, the delegates and everyone involved in Barça’s youth system: “they guide them [the children], they form them and they educate them as players.”
