FC Barcelona’s U12 A and B teams won the XII Edition of the International Mediterranean Football-11 Cup held in Costa Brava. The Azulgranas, who played with the football 11 system for the first time in an official tournament, beat Atlético Madrid in the final by 1-0.

Hard-fought match

The final match started with Atlético pressuring high up the pitch. The team led by Marcel Sans slowly settled into the match and their first shot on goal came 14 minutes into the first half. The chance encouraged the youngsters as they started to dominate the match, even though both sides enjoyed chances. Despite attempts on both goals, the teams went to the half without scoring.

The second half stared with a bang for the Azulgranas. Albert Portas opened up the scoring on 26 minutes with a shot from the penalty spot after an assists from Sergio Gómez. After the goal, Barça continued to create goalscoring chances. The closest of which was when Arnau’s free kick hit the crossbar. Atlético also created chances of their own, but were unable to score.
